My mixed media collages have come about quite by accident. Years of exploring batik, the resist process of patterning fabric with layers of wax and dyes, had left me with remnants of beautifully textured paper that I felt compelled to save. These papers were the result of ironing a completed batik to remove the wax crust; the paper absorbs the heated wax, reveals the underlying fabric design, but holds within its surface a printed transfer of color, shape and line.
It is these papers, collected and treasured over time, that build the compositional foundation of each collage, defining space and expressing the interplay of artist with material.
